Are you trying to figure out what to sell on Amazon? As an Amazon reseller, identifying and finding successful, branded products is a critical task before pouring our time and effort into sourcing.
Since Amazon has millions upon millions of products, we will need reliable signals that lead our product scouting, otherwise, we will be lost in the “jungle”. Below are the traits of an awesome wholesale product.
Let's dive right in.
1. Standard-size & not fragile items
This is all related to shipping and processing fees. The fragility is about materials used to produce the product such as glass or ceramic, while the item's size related to its weight and geometric dimensions when fully packed.
Essentially, we will want to avoid either oversize or fragile items since they need to produce significant profits to gain our interest as the extra cost and expense involved.
Below is the definition of a standard-size item by Amazon itself.
2. Selling price is $20 and up
This is related to our profit. There are many costs and expenses we need to cover when selling on Amazon: costs of goods sold, FBA fees, storage fees, PPC ads, tools/software, taxes, etc. You name it. So, we won’t want low price products since they almost will not generate a decent profit for us. The lower the price, the tinier the profit and they simply aren’t worth pursuing.
3. Review rating is 4 stars and up
This is related to our profit.
4. Not too competitive
This is definitely related to competition. We won’t want those products that there are too crowded sellers on the listing, for say 30, 40, or more. The more competitors, the fewer sales we will be able to attain. In our experience, a listing with between 3-15 sellers will work fine.
5. Amazon is not a seller
We will need to avoid competing against them since we almost have no chance to win. So one of the mandatory requirements when we conduct product research is that Amazon is not currently selling the product and/or has not sold it in the last 3 months.
6. Brand owner is not the only seller
The brand owner or manufacturer is not the only seller and there are more than 3 unique sellers currently in the listing. This is to ensure that the product is not a private label item and/or not sold exclusively by a couple of certain sellers.
7. Our estimated sales equity is at least 20 units/month
This is to ensure that the product is successful and selling well on Amazon that helps quick turnaround for our investment and therefore, quickly scales our business.
8. The selling price and sales rank are stable over a certain period of time
Both of these criteria are about product consistency. Since we want to create a consistent, reliable revenue stream, month after month, we will want to reduce our dependency on those products that are not consistent over time.
These are the set of reliable criteria we have utilized for our product research all the time. You may want to download our complete product analysis free guide to learn more about how to identify and find awesome wholesale products with an actual example.
